Formal Ponytails

Ponytails…an easy formal updo for most any event. Ponytails are a great, simple hairstyle that will accentuate a formal gown. Ponytails are wonderful if you have a very fancy gown, or jewelery that you want to stand out. The simplicity of a ponytail will add an elegant feel to your over all look.

alexisbledel-ponytail.jpgPonytails can also be playful when dressed down with a summer day dress. You can soften a ponytail with a sidesweep bang, giving it class and personality.

katielohmann-ponytail.jpgPonytails are generally used by women with long hair, it’s a fast solution to long locks….just add a little curl at the bottom and straighten those long bangs and you’re set for a night on the town.

longponytail.jpg A great way to dress up a ponytail is to wrap the elastic or hair-safe band with hair using a bobbypin to keep in in place hidden under the wrap. This a great hairstyle if you don’t have bangs and you prefer a tight, sleek look.

gwenstefani-ponytail.jpgThis is a similar look by Gwen Stefani. She placed the ponytail higher on her head, and back combed a bubble in front of the crown area, giving it a softer look with out bangs.

carmenponytail.jpg Carmen gives us a side ponytail loose and sexy.

Acheiving a formal updo using a ponytail is easy…

Ten essential hair care tips

eva-longoria.jpg 10 essential hair care tips to achieving beautiful hair

Do not over wash
; the majority of women wash their hair daily, while this works for some, it doesn’t work for others. If you tend to have oily hair we recommend that you wash daily, but it never hurts to let your hair get a little oily from time to time, there is nothing better for your hair then the natural oils you probably hate. If your hair is dry we recommend that you wash every other day or sometimes every two days, while this might seem yucky at first, you will begin to see immediate results, you hair needs the oils that it produces and washing them out daily makes it hard for your hair to care for itself.
Avoid heat when you can:
Your hair gets brittle and frizzy when it’s overheated, so we recommend that you avoid heat when you can, on the weekends, or maybe letting it air-dry from time to time. If you are one that flat irons everyday, or maybe someone who defuses everyday, you should look into the products that are reviewed on prohairreview.com that are made to protect your hair from heat, and they also help to avoid breakage.
Do not use rubber bands: Traditional “rubber” bands that are usually used for postage or that you can buy bulk at office depot are NOT good for hair, they cause all kinds of breakage, and most often then not after pulling and breaking, you end up cutting them out anyway. There are some great reviews on bands that are better for your hair, and they keep it in place without the negative effects of yucky rubber bands.  Know your products: This will save you tons of money in the long run, read up on your products and know them, before you go and stock up on beauty supplies ask a professional or you can find great reviews by clicking here. You will avoid spending lots of money on products that don’t really work for you.Do not over process: Since no one really does their own hair, you have to be smart before calling your professional, and when you do call, make sure that you ask them about the condition of your hair. Bleaching, coloring, perming, and everything else we do to our hair needs to be separated by time, don’t keep going and going, let it heal before moving on to the next battle. Over processing your hair will make it unmanageable and down right ugly, so be sure and use good products and be careful.High Grade Style Tools: Using high grade style tools is a complete MUST! The flat iron must be ceramic or something better. Ceramic tools aren’t that much more money than the cheap gold plated irons, and they make a huge difference. You can check out my Flat Iron Facts page and learn all you need to know about flat irons.

Find a professional: Find someone you can trust, and that is knowledgeable in products and the latest trends, always keeping you up to date in your style. Make sure you can trust them.

Take a picture: Not only should you take a picture of how you want your hair to look, but be sure to pay attention to the model, or woman that is in the picture. Have you ever heard your hairdresser use the phrase “I’m a beautician not a magician”. Sorry the best hair stylist in the work cannot make you look like Jennifer Aniston if your hair is curly and thick, and you have a round face.

When you are looking for a hair style pay attention to 3 things: 1. Face shape, find a model with your face shape or basic facial features this is the very first way to know if the cut or style will look good on you. 2 Texture: Pay close attention to the hair texture, not always can you tell the texture by a picture, but you can usually tell if the hair is naturally curly or permed, extra thick, or extra thin. It’s always good to ask your stylist their opinion. 3. Lifestyle: The worst thing anyone can do when choosing a new hairstyle is choosing something too simple, or too complicated for ones lifestyle. If you’re a wash and go girl…choose something that dries naturally with out any trouble, or is easy and quick to do, you will absolutely hate it if you have to spend two hours getting ready because of your new hairstyle. If you are a dress up girl, you spend much more time fixing, so you don’t have as many limitations, you can “do” most hairdos so just choose something that you will love, and make sure you have time to care for it.Always use professional hair color: There are many different brands of hair color you can buy at Wal-Mart, but they will never give you the long-lasting color and results as professional color. If you want your hair colored go to a professional, you will be have access to color that is loaded with conditioners, and a professional that will be able to give you the color you want without a fraction of the damage that can be done when coloring your hair at home. And most of the time if something goes wrong with the color, you will be able to get if fixed for free!!Be creative: The greatest thing about hair is that it always grows back, and most of the time it’s very forgiving, so be creative and find what you love.Hair color and haircuts are a great way to start a new life, a quick change, or maybe just to have a “pick me up” day.
